The term allergy includes a large range of pathological conditions, in which the organism manifests some kind of hypersensitivity towards certain environmental substances.
Allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma, urticaria and anaphylactic reactions comprise only a part of the long list of allergic conditions. About 1.5 million Greeks and more than 150 million Europeans in general suffer from allergic diseases, while the respective percentages are expected to rise in the following years.
The symptomatology of an allergic disorder is the result of immune system operations – which is the defensive mechanism of the body- against the harmful substances. The body of a person with an allergic condition recognizes certain substances as being harmful and they are called allergenic. Although harmless for most people, these substances ignite allergic reactions of the immune system of such person causing the classic symptoms of an allergy – body tissue edema, sneezing, whooping, coughing and other symptoms.
Pollen, certain foods or other environmental substances may act as possible allergenics, however they do not constitute the cause of the disorder. The deeper cause of the allergic reaction lies in the distortion of the immune reaction.
The homeopathic therapy with a Homeopathy therapist in Athens aims at the self-regulation of the immune system so as to abrogate the hyper reaction developed against completely innocent substances.
This is accomplished by the usage of homeopathic remedies of natural origin in the framework of an individualized treatment, defined with regard to the patient’s constitution, the elaborated allergy symptoms as well as the factors which may affect them.
Hereunder you may find a characteristic brief allergy case from my clinical records.
It was a 59-year-old lady with a chronic condition of allergic urticaria. During the last 5 years she had chronic swelling in several parts of her body which caused severe itching and a burning sensation.
Although she had excluded certain food categories from her diet and took antihistamines and cortisone drugs, she kept having urticaria attacks, especially under conditions of excess heat in the environment.
After a complete history taking where the starting point was looked into, as well the urticaria symptoms and the patient’s personality and character, the appropriate homeopathy treatment was prescribed. During the first period of time that followed, the intensity of the symptoms in each attack decreased and later the attacks’ frequency also. Through the course of the treatment the improvement was stabilized and now the patient rarely has any urticaria attacks at all.
The above case is a good example of the fact that the aim of the treatment of allergic disorders is the modification of the organism’s immune reaction and not the suppression of the symptoms that result from the said hypersensitivity.
