In my clinical practice so far, many are the cases of women who face difficulties concerning adaptability to menopause. Of course this involves the occurrence of an intense rearrangement of hormones in a woman’s body, which justifies the emergence of numerous symptoms.
Hot flashes, night sweating, joint pain, sleep disturbance, gaining of weight, dryness of mucous membranes, combined with restlessness, anxiety or depression constitute the long list of such symptoms.
The menopausal syndrome consists the most important and immediate consequence of menopause. However menopause is not just a syndrome. It is a critical milestone in a woman’s life, as it signifies the completion of the reproduction phase and the commencement of a new one.
But what is it exactly this new phase to which every woman is required to adapt?
In the book “The way of the Empress” the following very interesting remarks are made, from the Chinese Medicine point of view: “In the course of life, the vital energy that is stored in the kidneys is consumed little by little. When half of it has been consumed, an expedient saving mechanism is installed. Menstruation stops. When that happens the powers released through menstruation are now available to be utilized by the woman in any way she likes. Therefore, while during the first part of her life she dealt with having her children, bringing them up etc., the second half belongs exclusively to her. The extra energy does not leak outwards anymore, and subsequently yang energy rises. She now has the opportunity and experience to realize all that she ever wanted but never dared or had the time to do. But, in case that excess of yang does not find new creative ways to be channeled outwards, it will cause hot flashes, sweating and palpitations.”
This kind of analysis automatically exculpates menopause symptoms and grants them their true meaning; which is that they do not constitute the cause of the disorder but rather its consequence.
So, instead of considering them as causes of harm, every woman can use them as indicators to the direction of realizing what she would like to change in her life, at a point when 100% of her power lies in her hands. Menopause does not bring her closer to old age, as it is usually said, but to deep transformation and true youth of the soul.
But what about the women who need some help in order to recognize and bring their hidden potential to the surface?
At that point the role of Homeopathy is crucial, since by the means of proper homeopathic treatment the symptoms subside or in most cases completely disappear, leaving the space free and available for the woman to explore her true wishes.
Such inquiry is healing on its own. Homeopathy with a Homeopathy therapist in Athens can be a helpful -actually accelerating- means towards that deeper inquiry, which every woman ought to embark on so as to harvest the maximum of the wise course of her own nature.
Menopause case from my clinical records
A., a 47 year old woman, who had had a Homeopathy treatment with me in the past for issues such as constipation, sleep disorders and eczema, came back to visit me in September 2019 due to menopause symptoms. The hot flashes had began a month and a half earlier, immediately after completion of her monthly menstruation cycle, and she had started feeling them mainly in the head and back. Beside that, she experienced joint pain, numbness of the hands and pain in the legs. The eczema in her right palm had appeared once again. She easily felt tired. She had a desire for sweets, dairy and eggs. Her nails had always been very soft, peeling and splitting in half, while she chronically lost hair. She often got confused about what she wanted to say and said another word, irrelevant to her intended one.
In this history taking, in order to select the proper homeopathic remedy I was not based so much on the emotional profile of the patient but on her plenty physical symptoms, since I was familiar with her psycho-intellectual aspects, her being my patient from the past.
The appropriate homeopathic remedy was prescribed and a few days later she had her menstruation normally while the hot flashes subsided. It took some more dosages of the same remedy for the joint and leg pain to subside and the sleep condition to ameliorate. The desire for sweets also diminished and the palm eczema disappeared.
6 months after commencement of the treatment, A. keeps having improved, having a steady monthly menstruation cycle and without any other menopause symptoms.
This case is evident of the dynamic that lies in the appropriate homeopathic remedy to restore harmonic balance of the body, enhancing its vital power.
Homeopathy is a valuable therapeutic means for women in all phases of hormonal rearranegement, from puberty to pregnancy and menopause.
