Α 20 year-old man, A., visited me having an obsessive-compulsive disorder history. Psychotherapy had helped him control the symptoms but now part of the disorder had reemerged.
He has intensive thinking around death. He makes dramatic mind images around death of his family members or even his own. These thoughts make him panic. He breathes fast and has palpitations as these scenes cross his mind. They are either accident or blood scenes, or that he falls from great height. As the light goes down in the day, these thoughts get worse.
What is more, he does not have a good memory or concentration.
In the physical level, he has allergic rhinitis. He had acne since childhood, which he later treated with isotretinoin.
He has some kind of stomach disturbance, especially if he eats something fatty.
He often has nightmares. He usually wakes up feeling tension in his body and with a bad mood and great irritability.
He likes fish a lot, as well as salt in his food.
He is ambitious, very interested in professional success, and that is what he focuses on, while he does not care much about his relationships to other people. He is sociable, but with no real friends. He underestimates other people, considering that he is superior to them.
In case someone treats him in a way he believes he does not deserve, he feels hatred against him.
Following evaluation of his history, the appropriate homeopathic remedy was prescribed.
A month later, A. reports the following:
His sleep has considerably improved. He does not have so many nightmares anymore and gets up feeling well-rested and with a good mood. His death thoughts have decreased to some degree, but his memory and concentration keep not being good.
He continues the same treatment, and comes back for his second reexamination saying that he now feels better with himself. His stress levels have lowered. He had very few nightmares and his sleep quality kept improving. However still does not desire human contacts.
He continues the treatment for one more month, and says that he feels even more comfortable in life. His negative thoughts have diminished. His feelings of hatred against the professor that had done injustice to him are not there anymore. He stopped hurting himself, something that he had not mentioned that he had been doing. His memory and concentration had improved greatly. And what is most important, he found friends, whom he had a good time and did a lot of things with. Actually he felt an emotion which was new to him, that was joy.
Treatment continues for one more month. A. comes back for his reexamination saying that he has started setting short-term goals aiming to improve his daily life. He keeps feeling very well. He has the sensation that there was something ill inside him, which has been now healed. He does not want to go back to his previous state. He does work, and makes his first money. He has started writing a book. He enjoys his life and his age more.
This case makes evident how homeopathic therapy can go through psychological defenses and relieve deep traumas, -what is also important – in a mild and painless way, gradually taking the patient to a higher level of health both in physical and psycho-intellectual level.
